Brief history of the Department:

The department of Bengali is one of the oldest Departments in Kazi Nazrul IslamMahavidyalaya. Since the beginning the department has been growing day by day. Thedepartment started in General courses in 1982 and Honours courses in 2009. From the beginning the college was under Burdwan University. 2015, 24 th June to till now the college has been affiliated to Kazi Nazrul University. Around the area or district our department isawell renowned department. From the beginning to 31.10.2013 Sadhan Kumar Choudhurywas an eminent professor in our department, he was well renowned and respectedprofessor who glorified our department. Then joined our department Baishakhi Kundu. Thenjoined Dr. Ashish Ray who is currently serving at North Bengal University. Our SACTteacher Dr.Arunava Mukherjee is now at Jhalda college in Purulia. Presently the department has three full time teachers as H.O.D Prof. Dipak Mudi, Dr.Sudipta Mondal, Dr. SubhenduGhosh & one SACT Maya Samanta. Since the beginning to till now our faculty has always tried to maintain quality intheacademic areas. The students of the department also participate in the vibrant cultural lifeon campus; participating in debates, quizzes and drama performance. Equal emphasisisalways given so that our students can enrich themselves in the cultural and social fields.

Strength & Weakness:

Strength:
a. Highly qualified and dedicated faculty in the department.

b. Good academic atmosphere.

c. Department has a good bonding among the teachers and the students.

d. We have a good relation and cooperation with office of the Principal, library and other departments of the college.

Weakness:

a. Number of permanent faculty is very few.

b. A very few qualitative students enrolled in the department.

c. Maximum enrolled students of the department come from economically weaker section of the society.Major are female students, in every academic session many of themget married by their parents pressure and which leads an unexpected drop out at our department.
