HISTORY

Kazi Nazrul Islam Mahavidyalya is located in the coal-belt of Bengal in the Jamuria Block of Paschim Bardhhaman district. It began its journey as a Govt.-Aided co-educational General Degree Arts College only on 1st June,1982. The establishment of the College reflected the long-standing aspirations of the people of the area for a College in the name of the rebel poet Kazi Nazrul who was born at Churulia..With time the College has been able to fulfill to a very large extent the desires and aspirations of the people of the area in facilitating quality higher education. This has been despite the fact that the remoteness of location of the College has proved to be major hindrance. Originally affiliated to The University of Burdwan (till July 2016), the College was affiliated to Kazi Nazrul University from the session 2016-17. The College received affiliation for Commerce in the session 1989-90 and further upgraded itself with Honours affiliation in Bengali, English, Hindi, Geography, History, Political Science and Accountancy. Sanskrit, Economics and Philosophy are also taught at the College. Over the last three decades of its existence the College has striven constantly to keep abreast of technological development and ICT by constantly tiding over its hindrances with the effort of the management of the College, a dedicated band of Teaching and Non-teaching Staff and students who have performed admirably and are now located all across the country in various sectors of life. The College has increasingly become an institution which believes in its abilities despite geographical, socio-economic and infrastructural odds.
